The Dyson AM11 Pure Cool Link is one of the most expensive compact air purifiers you can buy for home use. Many people are hesitant to spend so much on an air purifier. But is it really worth the investment? Let’s dive into the details.

The Dyson AM11 Pure Cool Link looks a lot like Dyson’s tower fans from previous years. It’s made up of just two parts: the base and the top loop. Assembling the purifier is super simple. Just align the top part with the base, push it down, and it’s good to go.

Though it resembles a fan, you can tell it’s an air purifier by the larger base, which holds a 360-degree glass HEPA filter. This filter captures allergens, bacteria, and particles, while the top acts as a bladeless fan. The sleek, tall design makes it look great in any room, and it’s also safer for kids because there are no spinning blades to worry about.

Important to Know:

You can’t tilt the top loop to change the direction of the airflow. Dyson explained that tilting it would make the unit unstable and could cause it to tip over.

The Pure Cool Link comes with a familiar remote control, and thankfully, Dyson no longer uses the soft-touch finish that could easily chip off (as seen in older models like the AM06 Desk Fan). You can control power, fan speed, the sleep timer, night-time mode, auto mode, and oscillation with the remote.

Smart Features

In case you lose the remote, you won’t be stuck. The AM11 Pure Cool Link is a smart device, and you can control it through the Dyson Link app. This app allows you to:

Performance

I tested the Dyson Pure Cool Link after using the Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2, which is much cheaper but doesn’t offer the same design or features.

As a fan, the AM11 has 10 different airflow settings, and it’s impressively quiet. You’ll only start hearing noise when you crank it up to level 7 or higher. When in auto mode, you may not even notice it’s running. However, keep in mind that while the fan is powerful, it’s not as strong as a traditional bladed fan. The airflow is more directed, and it’s about 70% as powerful as a standard fan.

The base of the unit houses sensors that detect particles and gases in the air. In auto mode, the purifier adjusts its fan speed based on this information.

Real-Life Test

When I first set up the purifier, the Dyson Link app told me the air quality in my room was “Fair,” meaning there were particles like pollen, bacteria, and pet dander in the air. While it doesn’t give specific numbers, the app is easy to follow. After running the purifier for a few days, the app indicated that the air quality improved to “Good,” and the fan went into a lower speed mode. The LED display also showed a green “A” when the air quality target was met.

Important to Know:

The purifier works best in a closed room. When I opened a window, the air quality dropped back to “Fair,” and the fan sped up again.

It’s hard to tell a huge difference in air quality just by breathing, but I did notice fewer smells, and the filter was trapping visible dust and dirt. The app’s tracking also suggests the air quality improved.

The filter life is solid, too. It can last up to six months if you use the purifier non-stop, but if you only run it a few hours a day, the filter could last over a year.
